More than 50 participants attended the 1st series of SEATIDE Research workshops which were held at the EFEO Centre in Chiang Mai on 13 February 2014.
Structured around the themes of identity, mobility, knowledge and security, the four workshops enabled SEATIDE researchers to present their individual projects and fieldwork results and to engage in debate with external experts. The experts included associate Prof. Michele Ford (University of Sydney), Prof. Paritta Chalermpow Koanantakool (former Director of the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Anthropology Centre), Prof. Michael Parnwell (University of Leeds), Prof. Teresa E. Tadem (University of Philippines Diliman) and Prof. Sulfikar Amir (Nanyang Technological University, Singapore).
A plenary session hosted at the RCSD Centre, Chiang Mai University, was held on 14 February. On the following day, SEATIDE members returned to CMU and presented the project at the Asia Pacific Sociological Association (APSA) 2012 Conference "Transforming societies: contestations and convergences in Asia and the Pacific" and took part in several panels.
